Habitat for Humanity is about serving God by serving others
“If a rich person sees his brother in need, yet closes his heart against his brother, how can he claim that he loves God? My children, our love should not be just words and talk; it must be true love, which shows itself in action.”
1 John 3:17-18
Habitat’s ministry is based on the conviction that to follow the teachings of Jesus Christ we must reflect Christ’s love in our own lives by loving and caring for one another. Our love must not be words only—it must be true love, which shows itself in action. Habitat provides an opportunity for people to put their faith and love into action, bringing diverse groups of people together to make affordable housing and better communities a reality for everyone.
Why Get Involved?
Our ministry offers a unique opportunity for people to experience their faith in new and exciting ways. Participating in a Habitat project can:
- Help people see the spirit of God at work outside the four walls of the church.
- Help build the church. Habitat for Humanity is a widely recognized and respected Christian organization. A Habitat project can be just the spark that gets people excited about working in Christian community.
- Help a church fulfill its mission to minister to persons who are in need.
- Attract new members and bring energy into a congregation.
- Enable individuals to experience spiritual growth.
- Be a means for identifying and developing leaders within the church.
Every home is built through prayer. Prayer is foundational to our mission as we partner together in living our faith. Contact email@example.com to be added to our prayer chain email or receive regular prayer request updates.
God gave each of us unique talents, and the ministry of Habitat offers the opportunity to use all of these gifts.
Construction: Our homes could not be built without our church volunteer groups on Saturdays. Building in Faith Partners are scheduled as part of the partnership (Building in Faith Partnerships). Non-partnership groups are asked to sponsor the day with a suggested minimum of $50 per person. Up to 15 people can be accommodated per site, per day (8:30am-3:30pm). Check out our Volunteering FAQs for more information and Current Projects to find out where we are now. These non-partnership groups can be scheduled by completing the Church Group Form online.
Non-Construction: We are also blessed with volunteers who give their time to the larger organization through non-construction volunteer opportunities. It is these volunteers who allow us to help more people by keeping our costs low and productivity high. To see all our current opportunities, click here. Or if you have additional questions about how your church can partner with RVHFH, contact our church relations team at firstname.lastname@example.org.
Building in Faith partnership: We are very blessed when churches donate much-needed funding for the work of providing simple, decent, affordable housing. Church Partnerships provide the financial support to make the dream of home ownership happen for our partner families. To find out more about how your church can join with us in a Building in Faith partnership, click here.
Women Build Helper (any age): This is a great project for a Women’s Group or Youth Group to provide food and beverages on Women Build Days. Volunteers are asked to provide either goodies for breakfast, a full lunch, or just dessert for a Women Build workday. You’ll make the food or get donations from businesses and deliver to the work site on special Women Build Saturdays. To get involved, contact our Women Build Coordinator, Kathy Tanaka.
Provide refreshments for a Site or Home Dedication Ceremony, special community celebrations for the dedication of a construction site and completed home. To get involved, contact email@example.com
Provide worksite supplies and receive a short talk and tour of the worksite. Suggested Items: Water Bottles, Disposable Cups, Paper Towels, Heavy Duty Garbage Bags, Window Cleaner & Paper Towels. Or support our hard working crews by providing refreshments. To get involved, contact our Volunteer Manager, firstname.lastname@example.org
Through Education and Advocacy
There are many ways for your church to become more knowledgeable and involved in the mission of affordable housing. We can provide a speaker and or information table for your congregation at a service, a mission team meeting, church leadership group or a youth forum. To get more specific information contact us at email@example.com.
You are the light of the world. A city on a hill cannot be hidden. Neither do people light a lamp and put it under a bowl. Instead they put it on its stand, and it gives light to everyone in the house. In the same way, let your light shine before men, that they may see your good deeds and praise your Father in heaven.
