So many ways you can help to build a home!
In whatever capacity you decide to volunteer, with whatever time you have available to give, please know that we are grateful for all of the work that you can do to support this important mission to build simple, decent, affordable homes.
What’s a typical workday like?
The typical project is the construction of a new 1100 square foot house. As the home progresses, all phases of the work are done from basic framing to final finish and trim. A paid site supervisor with residential construction experience works with the volunteers to make sure they know how to do the work safely and with quality. This is an opportunity to work with a friendly crew of volunteers, learn some new construction skills, and have the satisfaction of working with a family who will have a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity to own their own home. Construction volunteers need no experience.
Saturday Work Crews
Saturdays are our most popular workday and, although our group sponsors are the first to be scheduled, there are 3 spots per location reserved for individual volunteers. When you send in your application, please include a few dates and location that work best for your schedule. Check out our Volunteering FAQs for more information and Current Projects to find out where we are now.
The Wednesday/Thursday crews are comprised of 10-15 individual volunteers who have the flexibility to work during the week and enjoy construction work. Typical volunteers are handy around the house, but not necessarily experienced with construction. You can volunteer to work on Wednesdays, Thursdays, or both on a flexible basis as you have time to contribute and as the building schedule requires. Check out our Volunteering FAQs for more information and Current Projects to find out where we are now.
