Celebrate National Women Build Week!

Special Mother's Day Weekend Women Build!
Saturday May 10th, 2008

What better way to honor Mother than to help build a home for a hardworking, deserving Mom!

A special Women Build Day is planned for May 10th, Mother’s Day Weekend, to correspond with Habitat for Humanity International and Lowes National Women Build Week, which is in celebration of the compassion, dedication, talents and abilities of women from all walks of life. Lowe’s, a national Women Build sponsor, is giving $5000 to 150 Habitat affiliates that hold Women Build days that week, and we are one of the lucky affiliates, joining other habitat chapters as we work on Lowes Women Build Day.

Bring your mother, daughter, sister, friend or just yourself to join other Women as we build in honor of all Mothers.

Collect pledges or donations in honor or memory of mothers. Dedications to mothers or other women will be written on studs to be installed in our Women Build house. Printable Mother’s Day Cards will be emailed to you to share your gift with those you are honoring. Cards will also be made available for you to provide to your sponsors for their donation in honor of a Mother. Register, collect at least $50 in pledges, ($100 earns you a Women Build t-shirt or hat) and help us build houses for four mothers.

Women Build Project Overview
Women Build challenges women to build a better future for the children of central New Jersey by addressing the problem of substandard housing.   Why?

  • More than half of RVHFH partner families are headed by women.
  • Women Build lets women use their skills to give other women and their families a “hand up” by helping them to build a home of their own.
  • Women Build gives women the opportunity to learn construction and home maintenance skills from other women in a supportive environment.

This Spring's Women Build Day involves the construction of 4 Habitat homes on Girard Ave. in Franklin Township, Somerset.

Women Build Workday Program
The Women Build Workday program is designed to help raise funds for Women Build while giving individual women an opportunity to volunteer as part of the Women Build effort.  During our first 9 Women Build workdays, more than 225 women from Hunterdon and Somerset counties joined together to help build modest, affordable homes for hard working, low income families in Lambertville, Bernardsville & Franklin Township --- and raised over $48,000 in the process!   Now we're looking to fully fund our next RVHFH Women Build house located in Franklin Township (Somerset). We must raise $100,000 to build this house! Our first workday on November 3, 2007 raised almost $12,000 toward this goal!

Participating is easy---just collect at least $50 in pledges,
then join us in Franklin Twp. for a great day on the work site.

Ask your friends, co-workers, relatives, or neighbors to sponsor you.  You’ll find that many people don’t have the time or desire to volunteer, but are willing to give their financial support for Habitat’s affordable housing mission.  Remember, RVHFH relies entirely on private contributions to cover our construction expenses.  Proceeds from the Women Build Workday program will help cover the cost of land, construction materials, tools and supervision on the Women Build project   If you prefer not to raise pledges, just submit your registration with a $50 registration fee (waived for those raising at least $50 in pledges).
