Exclusive Night of Shopping at
The Village at Bridgewater Commons

On Friday, September 21st, a wonderful evening was had by Women Build supporters at The Village at Bridgewater Commons. Maggiano’s Little Italy lived up to their reputation by providing the ladies (and men) a decidedly bountiful buffet of appetizers for over two hours that turned out to be more than a dinner. The wines were delicious and a good time was had by all. Then it was off to shop! Crate and Barrel generously donated 5% of their proceeds that evening, so the Women Build fund (with a goal of $100,000!) was quite happy!

Special thanks to the Bridgewater Commons Marketing staff who created and managed the event, Maggiano’s for going above and beyond, and Crate and Barrel for their generosity. We would also like to thank all of the merchants from The Village at Bridgewater Commons for supporting our Women Build program through special discounts and offers to our shoppers.

There is talk of repeating this event next year and we want a big crowd! Spread the word as this is a fun night! Generous food and wine for a $15.00 donation, thanks to Maggiano’s and Bridgewater Commons!

3 New Homes Were Dedicated in Lambertville on May 20th 2006
The home dedication ceremony formalized the partnership between RVHFH and its partner families, the City of Lambertville and the sponsors of the homes. The ceremony was especially significant to the Coleman, Durborow and Peters families who will receive the keys to their long awaited new homes.

Construction of the 25 Belvidere Avenue home was made possible through the generous support of the New Jersey Builders Association. The construction of the home at 35 Hancock Street was made possible through the signature sponsorship of the Reformed Church Partnership while the home located at 41 Hancock Street was constructed through the generosity of house partners Hunterdon Interfaith Housing Opportunity and Ortho-McNeil Pharmaceutical, Inc. as well as house supporter SES Americom. Both homes on Hancock Street also received valuable and enthusiastic support from various corporate sponsored workdays as well and RVHFH’s Women Build program.

“We are grateful for the wonderful support of each of these important partners for the building of these homes. Through their generosity along with the support of the City of Lambertville, three very deserving families are now able to realize their dream of home ownership,” states Pam Ely, Executive Director of RVHFH.

Hooked on RVHFH!
Califon’s Harvest Fest on Oct. 2nd 2005

A big fish is playing a key role in Califon United Methodist Church’s current fund-raising efforts on behalf of Raritan Valley Habitat for Humanity. The five-foot leaping trout, decorated with a collage of digital photographs by church member Ella Rue and her husband, Bob Eyet, will be on display at the church all summer. It will be auctioned off along with 30 others decorated by local artists as part of Califon’s Harvest Fest on Oct. 2nd, and the church has designated RVHFH to receive the proceeds. Califon United Methodist is a member of the Hunterdon Interfaith Housing Opportunity (HIHO), which is sponsoring a house that will be constructed in Lambertville later this year, and church members are working to raise enough money to win the auction and bring the fish home again when it is over.

HIHO Fundraising Raises the Roof!
Hunterdon Interfaith Housing Opportunity (HIHO) is group of congregations who have committed to sponsor a Habitat house in Lambertville, giving yet another family a place to call “home.”   HIHO members include Califon United Methodist Church, The Catholic Community of St John Neumann, First Unitarian Universalist, Flemington Baptist Church, Flemington Presbyterian Church and Round Valley United Methodist Church.

Groundbreaking for this home is set for July, but beyond recruiting the array of volunteers it will take to pound nails, drill holes, and lay sheet rock, HIHO volunteers have been busy “raising the roof,” by raising awareness and raising funds for this new home.   Fundraising efforts to date have included the following:

Meet the Artist - Ella Rue
Saturday June 11, the Califon United Methodists Church (CUMC) held a “Meet the Artist” Day. Husband and wife team, Ella Rue and Bob Eyet, together, created the CUMC’s five-foot leaping trout that will be auctioned off with similar fish at the Harvest Fest in October. The proceeds from the CUMC’s fish will benefit the Raritan Valley Chapter of Habitat for Humanity. There was also live music from bands The Lost Highway Ramblers, and Dirt Road 14 while refreshments, artwork and jewelry were also sold. People came and learned about Habitat, made donations, had lunch and listened as glorious music filled the small town, summer air. Nearly $750.00 was raised towards HIHO’s goal that day.

Spaghetti Dinner - A Delicious Success
On June 10th 2005,  a Spaghetti Dinner was held at Flemington Presbyterian Church.  Diners were entertained by Bob Woldin of The Lost Highway Rambler.   Thanks to the support of a number of businesses, including Alfonso's, Clinton Shop Rite, Garden State Growers, Hilltop Deli and Catering, Lebanon Cheese Company, Roma Foods, Tony’s at Brookside and Verducci's Specialty Market, more than $1,000 was raised that evening.

Day of Beauty
On June 7th 2005, Hunterdon County Polytechnic School cosmetology classes donated funds earned giving haircuts, manicures and pedicures to Habitat.   They raised over $350 in one afternoon.

Thank you to all who supported this event and to the students who provided their services.

Hooked on Califon
On April 24th Califon United Methodist Church “Fed the Fish.” Highlighting the Hooked on Califon initiative, children walked through the sanctuary with fish bowls, collecting both “noisy and quiet” money. Graced by the generosity of those present, they collected over $350.

Raritan Valley Habitat for Humanity (RVHFH) is pleased to announce that it was chosen as the first East Coast stop on the nationwide Leap of Faith tour.  Leap of Faith helped with the roof for the RVHFH house that is currently under construction on Allen Street in Lambertville on May 26th - 27th 2005.

Leap of Faith is a project that was initiated by Seth Kujat, a recent Kent State University graduate, whose mission it is to use his carpentry and roofing skills to help serve the needy in America by roofing at least one Habitat for Humanity house in each state; a total of 50 houses in 52 weeks.  Kujat will be traveling to each state in a donated vehicle that will serve as a storage facility for his equipment and clothing, his Leap of Faith office and sleeping quarters when necessary.  Mr. Kujat's reasoning for undertaking such an ambitious project is simple; "I am doing this project to serve others.  I am very blessed and have had the wonderful privilege of doing many different and amazing things in such a short life.  I have reached a point in my life where I now feel the calling to give up everything and help others reach their dreams ... I am determined to reach my goal."
