Welcoming the Perez, Onque and Solanki families to their American Dream

Wednesday, July 23rd dawned as a sweltering, sultry summer day but nothing could dampen the excitement and emotion surrounding the House Dedication Ceremony that Raritan Valley Habitat for Humanity (RVHFH) held to mark the completion of its latest building project on Girard Avenue.

RVHFH President Dick Bedner began the ceremony by pointing out that the new Habitat homes were about much more than wood and nails; everyone who participated in the project from the house sponsors to the volunteers who hung sheetrock and pounded nails, was sharing the gifts of faith and the comfort of hope for the future.

Deacon Ron Caimi of St. Matthias Church provided the invocation and Franklin Twp. Mayor Brian Levine followed with a welcome message for the Onque, Perez and Solanki families.   Kim Foley, Chairman and CEO of Foley, Inc., a Signature Sponsor of the project, highlighted the importance of corporate partnerships with organizations such as Habitat that help to unite companies and their employees with the communities in which they reside, to help those in need.

The ceremony which marked the dedication of RVHFH’s 28th, 29th, & 30th homes was a well attended event and emotions ran high as each family spoke a few words of gratitude just before receiving the keys to their brand new homes.  The Perez family summed up their feelings by stating how they were living the “American dream” and the Onque and Solanki families described how life changing the process of building their own homes alongside of so many committed volunteers from Foley and other local companies, the Building on Faith Partnership, Habitat Youth and the Women Build groups, truly was.

Bridgewater United Methodist Church Raising Funds for our Future Bridgewater Homes

FIRST ANNUAL STRAWBERRY FESTIVAL
Saturday, June 14th,

Close to $2,000 was raised to help fund the Bridgewater project - of nine (9) homes for hard-working, low-income families - for which BUMC is the first partner church

Everyone enjoyed the STRAWBERRY DESSERTS and other baked goods, hot dogs, chips and assorted beverages and the Children's table for coloring and face painting was a hit too.

And the skies didn't open up until after the event concluded at 8 PM., thank goodness!

Moonlight Flamenco - A Huge Success

Raritan Valley Habitat for Humanity (RVHFH) held an elegant and successful dinner dance fundraiser on Saturday, April 26th at Dolce Basking Ridge. This fabulous, fun-filled night included a delectable dinner and an authentic Spanish Flamenco Dance Exhibition provided by Danzas Espanolas of New York City. Attendees were happily on their feet for much of the evening partaking in the open dancing that followed the showcase. The evening also featured live and silent auctions, with all proceeds going toward RVHFH's building projects in Somerset and Hunterdon counties.

The annual event has grown each year and raised $25.5 K for our housing program. We thank all involved in making the event such a success, and a special thank you to the Plainfield Curling Club our Golden Hammer Sponsor.

Anne and Ed LaPlante of Skillman are the lucky winners of the Raffle Prize and will enjoy a 5-night Royal Caribbean Explorer of the Seas cruise for two to the beautiful, sunny, pink sand shores of Bermuda.
