The Campaign for Raritan Valley Habitat for Humanity

December 2009

Dear Friend of Habitat,

For the last 17 years, I have had the privilege of working side by side with Habitat volunteers and donors who are committed to addressing the shortage of decent, affordable housing in Somerset and Hunterdon Counties. Through the efforts and dedication of these fine people, I have seen 35 hardworking families become Habitat homeowners. Habitat gave each of these families a chance – a chance to build a better home, and a chance to build a brighter future.

Today, Raritan Valley Habitat has reached a crossroads. In the past, we have often struggled to find land on which to build. In the last several years, however, we have been able to develop productive partnerships with many local communities. To capitalize on this opportunity, we have embarked on an ambitious five year plan: to obtain and develop sites for 54 homes, to complete construction of 33 homes, and to strengthen our internal organization to support this significant expansion of our program.

The next phase in our plan is the construction of a nine-home Habitat community in Bridgewater. This project is currently under construction, and we hope to complete all nine homes by early in 2011. Future projects will include an eight-home community in Kingwood Township, at least five more homes in Franklin Township, and other projects in a number of different municipalities, including Bridgewater, Lambertville, and Alexandria. The graph below outlines the expected growth in our construction program.

To succeed in this important effort, we need to double the size of our construction program from four to eight homes per year. We also need to raise an additional $3 million over the next five years, over and above our existing funding. To reach that goal, we are launching the More Homes, More Hope campaign.

I am pleased to say that despite a very challenging economy, the More Homes, More Hope Campaign has already raised over $1.9 million. We are grateful for the generosity and commitment of so many in the community. Now, we need your help to raise the remaining funds so we can help more families to build their own simple, decent homes.

Please consider making a significant commitment to the More Homes, More Hope campaign. Together, we can give more hardworking families the chance to build better homes and better lives.

Sincerely,
Pam Ely, Executive Director
