ANNUAL REPORT – 2007
Presidents Report - 2007 Highlights
Many hardworking families in
Somerset and Hunterdon counties are unable to afford decent safe
housing. Low-income families continue to lose ground due to
spiraling home ownership costs and income stagnation. Raritan
Valley Habitat for Humanity (RVHFH) in partnership with local
communities and thousands of dedicated volunteers and sponsors
is committed to eliminating substandard
poverty housing.
In 2007, our chapter continued
to build momentum and support.
-
Four homes were completed
in Bernardsville and are now home to the Broughton, Davis,
James, & Robinson families. Thanks to the unwavering support
of the Borough, church and corporate sponsors, and many
dedicated individuals, we were able to successfully
negotiate the significant design and construction challenges
posed by the terrain and the location of the property along
a state highway. In fact, the Somerset County Planning Board
recently recognized our Bernardsville homes as exceptionally
well designed and developed, presenting RVHFH with the 2007
Award for Excellence in Residential Planning.
-
Partner families were
selected and began work with the volunteers on our next 4
homes in Franklin Township. Mild
winter weather has allowed us to make excellent progress.
Located on Girard Avenue, these homes represent the first
step in our commitment to build at least 13 affordable homes
in Franklin between 2007 and 2013.
-
Opportunities for building
in Hunterdon County continued to expand. New relationships
were established with Kingwood Township, Califon, and
several other communities. More than ever before, we are
working closely with individual municipalities to help them
find cost-effective ways to meet their affordable housing
needs.
-
Our volunteers helped to
expand the office, providing adequate workspace for our
growing program.
Over the last 15 years, RVHFH
has completed 27 houses, providing 109 people with a decent,
affordable place to call home. We are grateful for the many
blessings we have received as we work to help those in need, and
we look forward with confidence and hope to the coming years.
