ANNUAL REPORT – 2009
Presidents Report - 2009 Highlights
Raritan Valley Habitat for
Humanity (RVHFH) made significant strides to expand our program
in 2009.
Our building team, partner
families, and volunteer work crews completed four homes in
Franklin Township for the Ayala, Howard, Morgan, and Roberts
families. During the last two years, we have completed a total
of eight homes in Franklin. We are grateful for the ongoing
support of the Township for our building program and for the
warm welcome given to our work crews and homeowners by so many
in the Franklin community.
Even as our volunteer crews
were busy completing the Franklin Township homes, another
Habitat team was hard at work clearing the lot and completing
the initial site work for our largest project to date – a
nine-home community on Dutch Lane in Bridgewater. These nine
homes are being built on a new cul-de-sac, and a great deal of
planning, preparation, and site development work was required
prior to the start of construction. We are grateful to the team
of dedicated professionals who devoted the time, energy, and
skill required to make the Dutch Lane project a reality: Carroll
Engineering; The Auld Partnership; and the law firm of Norris
McLaughlin & Marcus. We are also grateful to the Township of
Bridgewater for their commitment to the Dutch Lane project. We
broke ground for the first of the Dutch Lane homes in August.
Three homes are now under construction and we are ready to break
ground for the fourth home when the weather permits.
In the spring of 2009, our
family selection volunteers completed the largest and most
comprehensive family selection process in our history, selecting
nine new partner families for the Dutch Lane community. These
nine families include 38 people (12 adults and 26 children). All
have begun working on their sweat equity hours, and are working
side-by-side with members of our family relations team to
develop realistic budgets and savings plans, laying the
groundwork for a smooth transition to home ownership.
Thanks to the efforts of our
dedicated volunteers and the partner families themselves, RVHFH
has now completed 35 simple,
decent homes for working families. We look forward to helping
many more families build their own homes in the years to come.
